Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)

Analysis (ABA) therapy.

A Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a credentialed paraprofessional who works
one-on-one with individuals receiving Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy to implement
individualized treatment plans. As an RBT, you will work under the close, ongoing supervision
of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). RBTs do not design or assess treatment plans,
but instead provide direct therapy, collect data, and help clients develop meaningful skills
across areas such as communication, behavior, social interaction, and daily living.

Here are some duties you can expect to find in an RBT position description:

Collecting data on client behaviors and skill acquisition through direct observation.

Implementing individualized treatment goals and behavior intervention plans under BCBA supervision.

Teaching clients the specific skills outlined in their treatment plans.

Supporting the development of communication, social, play, and daily living skills.

Assisting with behavior reduction and skill acquisition programs as directed by the supervising BCBA.

Communicating professionally with parents and caregivers regarding session updates, as directed by the clinical team.

Maintaining professionalism, consistency, and accuracy in all therapy sessions and documentation.

Requirements for RBT Certification
To be certified as an RBT, you must:

Be at least 18 years old.

Have a high school diploma.

Complete the requisite 40 hours of training, overseen by a BCBA.

Undergo a background check within 180 days of submitting your completed RBT Certification Application.

ï‚· Complete and pass the RBT Competency Assessment, in which an assessor observes and evaluates your performance of RBT tasks (in person, live via the internet, or through recorded videos)

Complete and pass the RBT exam, which is comprised of 75 multiple-choice questions and assesses the applicant’s knowledge of the RBT Task List.

Abide by the RBT Ethics Code.
